As part of our Unlimited-Luxury® privileges at Dreams Villamagna Nuevo Vallarta, we offer a variety of entertainment and activities for our guests. One of the activities that our guests enjoy is our bike tour to see some of the local sites in Nuevo Vallarta.

The bike tour is offered every day of the week departing at 11 am from the resort activities center. The tour lasts about an hour and goes through the dolphin center, the zoo, a supermarket at Paradise Plaza Mall and around the Nuevo Vallarta area.  We change the tour up a little bit each day to keep it interesting. If group tours aren’t your thing, you are also free to take our bikes out to explore on your own.

Stop by our activities desk to sign up if you are interested in taking the bike tour during your stay! We provide the bike, helmet and vest for everyone and ask that our guests wear running shoes and bring water. We can’t think of a better way to explore the local area and get some exercise too!

We offer a number of delicious dishes at Dreams La Romana Resort & Spa, but one that always seems to be a crowd pleaser is our seafood paella. This dish is largely influenced by our Spanish heritage, but made with the perfect Caribbean twist.

To give you an idea of this dish’s origins, here’s a little history for you. In 1492, Christopher Columbus landed on the island and named it Isla Española, which later became Hispaniola. During the period of his conquest, Spanish women who relocated here wanted to recreate the famous paella of their homeland, but they were forced to adapt the recipe to local ingredients.

Therefore, Paella in the Dominican Republic is one of the most versatile dishes in Dominican cuisine. There are countless ways it can be prepared, beginning with just a little rice, annatto (for coloring) and whatever else is on hand – usually fresh and tasty seafood!

Take a look at these pictures of a recent paella class at our resort. It was a fun event for all who participated and everyone got to enjoy their creation at the end!

At Dreams Resorts & Spas, we pride ourselves on throwing a fantastic fiesta in honor of Cinco de Mayo, a true celebration of Mexican heritage and pride. While many of you may be familiar with this Mexican holiday, do you know the real reason for celebration?

Cinco de Mayo is a celebration of the unlikely victory over the French in the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Contrary to popular belief, Cinco de Mayo is not the Mexican Independence Day which occurs on September 16th.

On this special holiday, guests at all of the Dreams Resorts & Spas will enjoy a fun-filled day of Mexican hospitality, colorful decorations, traditional Mexican music, games and entertainment. The day will be topped off with a starlight barbeque on the beach with plenty of delicious margaritas and food for everyone!

Here’s a look at some of the fun from last year!

At Dreams Resorts & Spas, we love leaving little surprises in the rooms for our guests. Our staff is trained in the art of towel origami, so often times there will be swans, monkeys, elephants and other fun towel animals to greet our guests when they return to their room for the night.

Of course these towel animals are a huge hit with children, so we thought it would be fun to offer an interactive towel art class just for kids. The class is a great way for children to learn how to make a variety of towel creatures, which is sure to impress their family and friends back home.

Take a look at some pictures from recent towel art classes at a few Dreams Resorts & Spas.

Mardi Gras is French for “Fat Tuesday” which is the last day Roman Catholics and many other Christians can let their hair down and eat, drink and be merry before the 40 days of fasting and prayer of Lent commence with Ash Wednesday. At Dreams Resorts & Spas, we go to great lengths to celebrate this holiday, and do our best to incorporate many activities for the entire family to enjoy.

Along with the elaborate costumes, colorful masks and exciting parades, another part of the celebration of Mardi Gras is the traditional oval cake in honor of the three kings – the King Cake. The shape symbolizes the unity of faiths. Each cake is frosted and decorated with colored sugars (purple, representing justice; green, representing faith; and gold, representing power. A small baby, symbolizing baby Jesus, is baked into each cake and the person who find it is made ‘king or ‘queen’ for the day.

The traditional King Cake is made from twisted strands of cinnamon dough, topped with icing, and sprinkled with purple, green, and gold colored sugar. See below for a quick and easy recipe if you’d like to create a King Cake of your own to enjoy at home. It’s the perfect family-friendly way to celebrate Mardi Gras with the whole family!

Ingredients

  • 1 can of cinnamon rolls, with icing
  • 3/4 cup of sugar, separated into 3 parts of 1/4 each
  • Purple, green and yellow sugar

Separate the cinnamon rolls and roll them out by hand so that they look like a hot dog. Shape the roll into an oval, pinch the ends together, and place on a cookie sheet. Cook as directed. When they are finished cooking, ice the tops with the white icing. Sprinkle the different colors of sugars alternating as you go around the oval.

Enjoy!
