Here at Dreams, it is important to us that we maintain socially responsible practices at all of our resorts. We would like to highlight Dreams Huatulco Resort & Spa for their recent feature in the Rainforest Alliance’s “Exemplary Practices for Sustainable Tourism” publication.

What made them stand apart? Well, the resort staff took time out of their busy lives to get involved in their local community of San José Cuajinicuil, a rural town outside of Huatulco that struggles from poverty, unemployment and high school drop-out rates. Here’s what they did to help their neighbors in need:

  • Hospitality Courses: The resort went above-and-beyond, as they offered courses to members of the community that would help them to succeed and make a good living. Courses that were offered included cooking, food service, bar-tending and housekeeping. .
  • “Rolling for Life” Event: This event, which promoted helmet use for bicyclists and motorcyclists, was held by the resort. During the event, Dreams Huatulco staff rode bicycles and motorcycles with helmets, they gave first-aid demonstrations and promoted helmet-use statistics to raise awareness. The resort even provided financial assistance to employees for the purchase of helmets, and they continue to monitor their helmet use on a daily basis.
